Login Management Help

These pages are used to manage your Case credentials and passphrase. Your Case credential is usually issued to you when you become associated with the university. It will remain active as long as you have a valid affiliation with CWRU. Your ID along with the passphrase you choose are the primary method of logging in to most online services offered by the university.

The process of entering your Case credentials and passphrase to log into CWRU services is called authenticating yourself; ;(proving you are who you say you are by providing the correct passphrase associated with your Case credentials. If you forget your passphrase, or it expires, it can be replaced with a new passphrase using the pages as described below.

Manage Passphrases

This set of pages is used to manage your passphrase. A passphrase should look more like a phrase: i.e. “milk+eggs+butter = yum” rather than a single string of arbitrary characters: i.e. “X+gg90@nbqx%$5gq2”. A passphrase is much easier to remember.

You cannot reuse your current passphrase or the 4 passphrases previous to that. Please refer to the CWRU passphrase policy page for more information.

Please see how to pick a good passphrase for more information.

Passphrase "goodness" tester
This page allows you to test a passphrase to verify that it meets CWRU’s requirements for a good passphrase. This page provides a visual indication via a progress bar of how good the passphrase is as you type it. You must authenticate via SSO to access this page.

Passphrase Verification
This page allows you to enter your Case credentials and passphrase which is then checked against what is recorded in SSO, Active Directory and Google allowing you to verify (or not) that the passphrase you entered matches what is recorded.

Passphrase Change
This page allows you to select a new passphrase by entering your Case credentials and current passphrase. This page may be used even if the current passphrase has expired. A progress bar will interactively show how close you are to meeting the passphrase requirements as you enter it.

Passphrase Reset
This page allows you to enter a new passphrase even if you have forgotten or misplaced your old one. You authenticate yourself using an authorization code sent to either a validated off-campus email address or a validated mobile phone via a text message. Once authenticated, you are prompted to enter your new passphrase. A progress bar will interactively show how close you are to meeting the passphrase requirements as you enter it.

Passphrase Sync
This page allows you to sync your SSO passphrase to your Active Directory and Google accounts . The passphrase you enter is checked against SSO to make sure that it is correct when you submit the passphrase. You must authenticate via SSO to access this page. .

Manage Verification Information

If you have forgotten your passphrase you can reset it by registering an off-campus email address or mobile phone, (or both), to which CWRU can send an authorization code as an alternate verification of your identity when resetting your passphrase. You MUST be authenticated via SSO to register an email address or mobile phone.

Register mobile device
This page is used to manage the mobile phones to which CWRU can text an authorization code when resetting your passphrase. When adding a new mobile phone, an authorization code will be sent via text message to validate the phone number you are registering. Once validated the mobile phone can be used when resetting your passphrase.

Register off-campus email address
This page is used to manage the email addresses to which CWRU can email an authorization code when resetting your passphrase. When adding a new email address, an authorization code will be emailed to the email address you are registering. Once validated the email address can be used when resetting your passphrase.

Activate your CWRU Account
Before you can use your Case credentials to log in to various services, you must activate it by providing an initial passphrase. Upon successful activation, your Google account is also created. A progress bar will interactively show how close you are to meeting the passphrase requirements as you enter it.
